My First

I was a little kid when I hooked up with my first.

Didn’t know anything about love but now that I’m older, I know that’s what it was.

Sometimes, we’d get together before school, she’d have me tripping trying to be cool.

But usually, we’d just chill, read comic books and play videogames.

If she wasn’t a girl, I swear she’d have been my best friend the way we did the same things.

And we were little kids,

we didn’t have anywhere to go so

She’d listen while I did most of the talking.

Me and my first wasn’t gonna be together forever.

ESPECIALLY if I knew then,

What I know now?

I wouldn’t have done anything different.

Our experiences were so innocent..

It taught me what the old folks say,

“Can’t always have what you want”.

Every once in a while, we’d go to a house party around the way.

I didn’t try to cuff her and she never charged me up.

Somehow, some way, there was time for our play.
