You skip that vlog?! 😉😂😂😂 Yoooooo! I was like a shark today! I set a plan, pushed towards the goal and pulled it off. Yesterday was tough and required some serious adaptation. I’m usually cool beans with adapting. As a teacher, I always operated on a ‘basic’ or ‘skeletal’ lesson plan. There were things I knew were essential and I was going to do my DAMNEST to ensure every kid OVERstood those essentials. This online homeschooling doesn’t come with a guidebook, old format, nothing and the kids FORCED me to make drastic changes. Today, I came prepared for shenanigans, drama, tears, lies. 🤷🏾♂️
What Worked
I had a History/Social Studies assignment based on Glory, 1989 Civil War film about the 54th Massachusetts, an all Black military unit. WHOEVER ain’t got English or Social Studies work, they answering basic questions and writing about the movie. I used helpingwithmath.com for their Math worksheets because it comes with the answers AND shows how to get the answer. Whichever kid was doing Math, worked on a set station because it was chromecasting. I hooked up the screen to show on the tv. (Just in case somebody tried to cheat and view those answers. 😉) Between the assignments that came in and MY alternatives, the day went quite well. Went SO well, I called a parent for the first time. My son, 8th grader, had that whiny, why-we-gotta-do-this-I-can’t-do-that energy. Yesterday, they all did and since I had no plan, back-up, alternative, they crushed me. Not TODAY! I had so much stuff ready, I could deal with drama immediately. For him, no laptop after Academy. He could play his PS4 but no computer, laptop. That fixed him. My 1st grader came with that wack energy too so she lost privileges as well. She calmed down. The best part of today? P.E. The kids did a full HOUR of yoga and 5 minutes of meditation. The handicapped yoga. MY yoga and I tore them up. 😎😍😅
Gratitude Activity
Over the last few days, I gave my kids a 32-question, yes/no only, test. The results were if they were left or right brained. Today, I finished the lesson with this quote, ‘Environment determines intelligence’. They wrote it in their journals, discussed it together and I brought the point ‘home’. From here on out, I’m drilling this point/lesson/perspective/truth to them. The Board of Good Stuff has taken off too. *checks around the room* Don’t tell the kids but they actually TRY to get on the board. Even my high schooler! I don’t add new stuff everyday and I only add at night. It is funny to me when they check for stuff and puff up when I mark it. They already tried acting disappointed when ONE thing wouldn’t be noticed but whatever. Life lesson.
