Truth like this pushes me keep going.
I’m wheelchair-bound, rocking a chronic illness, legally blind but I made the decision to BE better after modern medicine says I’ll never GET better.
My illness punks me, robbing the ability to move, control bladder, vision and voice. Everyday, I wake knowing I’m losing more independence so I challenge myself to do shit NOW.
That means COMMUNICATING with my kids instead of fussing.
That means I must tell people, “I love you”. Yup, even homeboys.
Everything is immediate because tomorrow will be worse, struggles more strenuous.
It’s an awful truth. It’s the proverbial, “Ugly side of beautiful.” This is the life of my disabled community.
